About Sozo

SOZO Freedom

SOZO Freedom was founded in March of 2011 and is part of the Mercy Transformation Center at Vineyard Community Church, located in sunny Southern California.

✨ We help people encounter the truth of God through an interactive prayer model that brings a deeper connection with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

✨ We equip you with the ministry tools that we have been trained in so that you can engage on your own time, as you navigate through life.

✨ We have seen the transforming power of God change people’s lives in ways that clarify one’s identity, value and purpose.

✨ We provide a safe, confidential place for people to come, as we serve in the capacity to honor; never to shame or place judgment.

✨ We provide practical input as to how you can continue on in your journey of healing and transformation.

✨ We believe there are three pathways to healing: spiritual, emotional, and relational.

✨ We believe that the healing God does in you, He will also do through you. This means that nothing is wasted in God, even the painful things that happen in our broken world.

✨ We provide ongoing trainings in our prayer model, which includes training in SOZO, as well as two other prayer models that teach the value of spiritual maturity and community.

“Lisa Johnston is a quality leader who is compassionate and an abandoned servant of the Lord who strongly believes in the power and vision of the Sozo model.”

Lisa M. Roseman

Raised by a single mother in a dysfunctional home, Lisa was brought up in an environment of chaos and fear. She had an older sister who was both physically and verbally abusive, and, from the age of seven until thirteen, lived with an alcoholic stepdad . After her mother’s divorce, Lisa was determined to find her birth father who had abandoned her, before she was born.

Unsuccessful in finding her father, her teen years were tumultuous. At the age of 18, she was able to locate her father, but found out that he was a drug-addict and very ill from years of hard living. Lisa turned to the world to try and find ways to fill the broken areas of her heart. Battling with bouts of depression, hopelessness, and despair, Lisa gave her life to Jesus at the age of 25, after an accidental near drowning. The saving power of God set her on a path to freedom. However, it would take some time to undo the damage that had already been done.

In 2006, Lisa had a profound encounter with the Holy Spirit at the Azusa Street Centennial celebration in Los Angeles, California. Although she had been a Christian for 15 years, this life-changing event placed her on a new trajectory towards a better understanding and grounding in the fathering love of God.

She discovered Vineyard Community Church, in Laguna Niguel, CA, in May of that year. Over the last 14 years, she has experienced countless occasions of the healing power and presence of God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.

Having what she would consider a “late start” in life, Lisa received a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with an emphasis in Biblical Counseling in 2011 and went on to pursue a Master’s in Theological Studies, which she completed in 2016. Her desire was to merge her counseling education with a solid understanding of the Bible in order to build a foundation for the ministry she was leading, known as SOZO Freedom.

Today, Lisa is a mentor, a spiritual leader, and an inner healing counselor who trains and equips people using an integrative approach to find spiritual, emotional, and relational wholeness and healing. Lisa engages with places like addiction recovery centers as well as churches and various organizations with the heart to bring inner healing and practical application to those who are seeking truth, freedom, and a deeper connection with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
